A traveling medicine show arrives in a small town and one of its participants is arrested for vagrancy. The corrupt local officials mistake him for a tax inspector in disguise and chaos ensues.

Trivia: This movie won a Golden Globe award for Best Original Score. The star-studded cast includes Gene Lockhart, who appeared with wife Kathleen Lockhart and daughter June Lockhart (Lassie, Lost in Space) in 1938's A Christmas Carol. His granddaughter, Anne Lockhart, has appeared in over 60 TV series over the last 40 years. Director Henry Koster received a Best Director Academy Award nomination for the 1947 Christmas classic, The Bishop's Wife.
