Stage-show promoter Duke Davis sets aside his own career to help his sweetheart Ethel Andrews (Lena Horne) when a talent scout offers her a chance to perform in New York.

Trivia: This was the first screen appearance of Lena Horne, but she's best known as a singer. She began singing at the Cotton Theater in Harlem at the age of 16 and went on to win three Grammy awards. Ralph Cooper (Duke Davis) was host of Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater in New York for 50 years.
