A magazine editor by day and a socialite by night, Madeleine Damien (Hedy Lamar) leads an excessive lifestyle that leads her to seek the help of a psychiatrist (Morris Carnovsky). At his advice she changes her identity, moves to Greenwich village to pursue a career as an artist. She falls in love with a handsome neighbor (Dennis O'Keefe) but before they can marry she is implicated in a murder.
Trivia: Hedy Lamar has been called the most beautiful woman ever to appear in film. She's best known for playing Delilah in Cecil B. DeMille's 1949 film Samson and Delilah. Director Robert Stevenson is well known for his work at Disney, where he directed a number of bonified hits (including Bedknobs & Broomsticks, The Love Bug, and Mary Poppins - for which he received a nomination for the Best Director Academy Award in 1964). Natalie Schafer (Ethel Royce) played Mrs. Howell in the Gilligan's Island TV series and Margaret Hamilton (Mrs. Geiger) played The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz.
