Captain Kidd (1945)
Director: Rowland V. Lee
Actors: Charles Laughton, Randolph Scott, Barbara Britton, Reginald Owen, John Carradine, Gilbert Roland
Runtime: 89 min.
The notorious pirate Captain Kidd presents himself at the 17th century court of King William III of England, requesting a royal commission. Believing he is an honest captain, the King assigns him to escort a treasure ship from Madagascar back to England. Kidd has other plans and attempts to steal the treasure for himself, and do away with everyone else.
Trivia: Charles Laughton received three Academy Award nominations and he won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1933 for The Private Life of Henry VIII. He also played Captain Bligh in Mutiny on the Bounty (1935). Some elements of the film are historically inaccurate, such as a scene showing the London Tower Bridge, 200 years before it was actually built.
