In the late 16th century, during the time of the war between Spain and England, Michael Ingolby (Laurence Olivier) offers his service to the Queen of England (Flora Robson). The Queen sends him to spy at the Spanish court and he learns that Spain plans to send a huge Armada to annihilate the British fleet.
Trivia: Laurence Olivier was nominated ten times for the Best Actor Academy Award, winning once for Hamlet (1948). Vivien Leigh (Cynthia) went on to star as Scarlett O'Hara in the classic movie Gone with the Wind. Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh began an affair shortly after this film was made and later married. Based on the novel Fire Over England by A. E. W. Mason.
