Detour (1945)

Director: Edgar G. Ulmer
Actors: Tom Neal, Ann Savage, Claudia Drake, Edmund MacDonald, Tim Ryan
Runtime: 67 min.

New York pianist Al Roberts decides to hitch hike to California to join his girlfriend in Hollywood. When a driver who picked him up dies along the way, Al robs him, impersonates him and takes his car. Then he picks up a woman (Ann Savage) in a gas station and suffers the consequences.

Trivia: One of the all time classics of film noir, Detour was one of seven film noir movies selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. Tom Neal (Al Roberts) was the boyfriend of actress Barbara Payton. His off-screen exploits related to her and others earned him a bad reputation.
